Dimensional Weight Replaces Oversize For Larger Packages

Effective January 1, 2007 Oversize charges for larger packages shipped via UPS ground will be calculated by dimensional weight. Dimensional weight will only apply to UPS ground packages measuring 3 cubic feet (5,134 cubic inches) or larger. Billing for packages measuring less than 3 cubic feet will continue to be billed on actual weight.

Determine if dimensional weight pricing applies to your package:

Measure the Length, Width and Height of your package. Round each measurement to the nearest whole inch. (Example: 1.00” to 1.49” would be considered 1 inch and 1.50” to 1.99” would be considered 2 inches) Multiply Length x Width x Height = Cubic Size of Package If the cubic size of the package is greater than 5, 134” you need to calculate the dimensional weight. To calculate the dimensional weight, divide the cubic size of your package by 194. Length x Width x Height = Dimensional Weight 194 The billable weight is based on either the actual weight or dimensional weight of the package, whichever is greater. If the actual weight is greater than 70 pounds, an additional handling charge will also apply.
